Shinsuke Nakamura defeated John Cena via pinfall to set up a title clash with Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship at the biggest party of the summer — WWE SummerSlam.Advertised as the ‘Dream match’ by SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan last week, the match was a tad underwhelming but surely had its moments that would make the wrestling fans appreciate the two stars.A 16-time Champion and a veteran, Cena, was facing the ‘King of Strong style’ for the first time in his career and the stakes were high as the winner would get a shot at Mahal’s title. While it was going to be Cena’s chance to get his record 17th title and become the greatest-ever champion by eclipsing Ric Flair, who also has 16 to his name, for Nakamura it was going to be his first-ever title shot. Both the wrestlers gave their all and displayed some wonderful moves. While Cena showed his brute strength, the Japanese glided along the ring, putting up a show with his hard-hitting kicks and athleticism.Ultimately, it was Nakamura who prevailed. Cena was looking to put Nakamura away for second Attitude Adjustment but Nakamura somehow got down and slammed Cena, which hurt the veteran’s neck. It was a perfect set-up for him to hit his finishing move — the Kinshasa. He did so and picked up the win and confirmed his ticket to SummerSlam. However, his party was cut short as Money in the Bank holder Baron Corbin attacked him from behind but Cena came to his rescue and put the ‘Lone Wolf’ through the announcers table to save Nakamura from any serious assault.advertisementSumemrSlam will take place on August 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
